We're Coming to Visit
MySafe:LA is coming to your street! If you’re reading this page because you received a “Door Hanger” on your property, it’s because our non-profit public benefit life safety organization wants to say “hello!”
We typically visit homes for several reasons. These may include:
- Follow up due to a house or business fire near where you live
- Fire safety inspections and provision of FREE smoke alarms, if required
- Wildfire informational visit (if you live in a wildfire risk area)
We will typically visit with our fire department partners. So, if you see fire engines on your street, it’s part of our community outreach.
Who Are We?
MySafe:LA is a division of The Safe Community Project, a 501c3 non-profit, public benefit organization. We focus on community resiliency and have been doing this work since 2008. We’ve been partnered with the Los Angeles City Fire Department since our inception, and we work throughout the County of Los Angeles as well.
To learn more about us, visit us online: www.mysafela.org
What should you expect?
If you’re reading this page, it’s likely because one of our public safety teams have distributed “Door Hangers” on homes where we’re planning on visiting.
On the day noted in the Door Hanger, we’ll knock on the door, often with our fire department partners, to explain why we’re in your neighborhood.
-
All of our members carry identification
Don't be shy - ask to see our I.D. if you have any questions. -
Every team has at least one uniformed member
Our members are first responders. Typically, our people have EMT certifications, but we also have paramedics and wildland firefighters on our team. -
Always ask questions
Our members are trained to support the public. If you have questions on any topic, please ask. We're visiting to make you, your family, your pets, and your home safer. -
Feel free to say "NO thank you"
We're visiting to help you be safer in your home. But, if you're uncomfortable, please let us know. We're only there if you want us to be. If you'd rather we not assist you, let us know and we'll be on our way. Just remember, our mission is to make the greater Los Angeles region safer, so talk to us and let us know what your thoughts are. -
Everything is free
MySafe:LA is supported by grants from the Federal Government, State Agencies, and private foundations. We don't charge any money for inspections for working smoke alarms, for the alarms, or for installation. Everything in our home inspection and smoke alarm initiative is FREE. -
What if it's a bad day to visit?
We know a lot of you are busy, and if it isn't convenient for us to assist you when we knock on your door, please let us know. We do this work all the time, so we'd be happy to schedule a return visit at your convenience.
Thank You!
If we can help make your home safer through the installation of new, 10-year sealed smoke alarms, 10-year sealed CO detectors, and basic fire safety education, we’re ready to do so.
