Following Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s “Safer at Home” order issued on March 19, MySafe:LA has been working on alternative methods of providing our fire and life safety education and awareness to people in the greater Los Angeles area. “We’ve been using online meeting tools for a long time,” said David Barrett, Executive Officer of MySafe:LA. “It’s a natural for us to transition our team meetings, as well as providing online outreach to people who are staying safe at home.”
A series of programs will be made available via webinar to the public, including a webinar on safe food delivery, a webinar involving COVID-19 safety and home life safety for older adults, and perhaps a revision to the Junior Fire Inspector program that is typically delivered to LAUSD and other elementary schools. “We don’t have to let the virus own us,” Barrett stated. “Home fires don’t stop when we’re all sheltering in place and in fact they may worsen. We’re not going to let a pandemic stop us from delivering our message.”
