MySafe:LA, the Countywide “coordinator” for wildfire prevention and mitigation is seeing strong response to its outreach and monthly “town hall meetings.” The non-profit organization produces and hosts a monthly wildfire town hall, with meetings typically held on the third Thursday of each month (no meetings are held in January or November).
“We are strong believers in collaboration,” stated MySafe:LA Commander David Barrett. “These town hall meetings give residents a chance to ask questions, discuss their concerns, and to become invested in their own personal safety.“
Each meeting includes guest speakers, and in the past has included LAFD Chief Officers, State Wildfire Experts, Insurance Experts, and local residents discussing their wildfire experiences. Each town hall also features a wildfire history lesson, designed to create perspective and to share “lessons learned” from past wildfires.
MySafe:LA’s wildfire prevention efforts are supported by FEMA, The Fire Safe Council of California, Motorola Solutions Foundation, the California Community Foundation, and other organizations. MySafe:LA is partnered with the Los Angeles City Fire Department in a wildfire effort called “The Los Angeles Wildfire Resilience Alliance.” To learn more about the monthly virtual town halls, visit www.mysafela.org/wildfire/
