Fleet Week Los Angeles took place over the recent Memorial Day weekend, and as it has been for the past five years, it was a tremendous success. MySafe:LA has played a role in Fleet Week since its inception, and the crowds of people were out and filled with enthusiasm as the community frees itself from the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
During Fleet Week, MySafe:LA is a core component of the “Safety Village” that includes MySafe:LA, the Los Angeles City Fire Department, CERT, and the Los Angeles Police Department. There are other law enforcement agencies at the event as well, including the California Highway Patrol, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, and the L.A. Port Police. Attendees tour visiting U.S. Navy ships, watch overhead demonstrations of flying machines, listen to some outstanding musical performances, and eat, eat, eat.
During the four-day event, MySafe:LA taught 555 people hands-only CPR, gave away more than 110 smoke alarms and hundreds of Junior Fire Marshal fire helmets for kids, and made dozens of appointments to install free smoke alarms in L.A. area homes. Fleet Week is just one of the many public events supported by MySafe:LA staff each year. Fleet Week 2024 will take place from May 22 through the 25th of 2024.
